From a family of celebrated jazz musicians, singer-songwriter Sophie Bancroft seamlessly blends her jazz influence with a broad but discerning swathe of contemporary folk styles, vibrantly showcased on her 2008 release Handwritten . One of the most inventive and distinctive artists to emerge from Scotland, she has drawn comparison to vocalists as classily diverse as Peggy Lee, Alison Krauss and Norah Jones. Sophie's music has been used in the major hit TV drama 'Six Feet Under' and her songs are being recorded and performed by various singers including award-winning jazz vocalist Liane Carrol.
Sophie performs either solo or with her partner and double bass player, Tom Lyne and is frequently joined by Amy Geddes on fiddle and backing vocals and Ross Mitson on guitar and backing vocals.
Sophie is also one of the most in-demand jazz vocal tutors in Britain. Please see the Teach page for more information.
