Sophie Bancroft and Tom Lyne have worked as a duo for 13 years. Performing jazz standards and original compositions in the setting of voice, double bass and guitar they create a dynamic, entertaining and intimate interpretation of beautiful songs. The Sophie Bancroft / Tom Lyne Duo have supported guitar legend Bert Jansch at the ABC in Glasgow, jazz vocalist Liane Carroll as well as
playing at numerous jazz and general music festivals and major music venues including the Queens Hall, Edinburgh and The Tron Theatre, Glasgow.
Tom, originally from Edmonton, Canada, moved to Europe after graduating from McGill University with distinction on jazz bass. Tom is a passionate bassist with a focused range of sensitivity and power stemming from roots in rock and roll, rhythm and blues and an early initiation in to jazz and improvised music. His vast range of playing experiences, aside from his work with Sophie, include regular bassist in The Dave Milligan Trio, The Unusual Suspects and The Amy Geddes Band. He has also played with Martha Reeves And The Vandelas, Charlie Hunter, Catriona Macdonald, Kevin Mackenzie, Karine Polwart, Martin Green, Kim Edgar and Brian Kellock.
